Tampa’s Jewish Community Relations Council and the Tampa JCCs & Federation have shared stories of Chazak v’Ametz — “be strong and courageous” — and illuminated acts of moral clarity and compassion during the Holocaust. In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Tampa’s City Council, led by Councilman Luis Viera, hosted a commemoration at Old City Hall on January 22, recognizing the “Righteous Among the Nations,” individuals across continents who risked their lives to save Jews from Nazi persecution.
Marking the United Nations-designated January 27 anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the program featured speakers representing Albania, China, Argentina, the Philippines and India, each sharing accounts of rescue and refuge from their countries of origin.
The event underscored a vital truth: even in humanity’s darkest hour, courageous moral choices transcended borders, faiths and cultures, affirming the enduring responsibility to confront antisemitism and hatred today.

Through its activities, the Tampa JCRC works to serve as a voice and advocate.
We can help you speak out against antisemitism!
As you've seen in recent news reports, nearly 300 pro-Palestinian protesters marched on May 1st toward USF. They returned to the scene where police deployed tear gas and arrested 13 people on the campus the day before. Crowds grew with each protest, activities appeared to be less violent, and children were joining the group as well. Learn more.
