Selichot: Dinner, Film & Service
Saturday, September 5
6:00 pm – Lower East Side Deli Dinner
7:00 pm - Selichot Program: “The Jewish Journey: America”
8:15 pm - Selichot Service
For 350 years, Jews fleeing Latin America, Communist Russia, Natzi Germany and the Muslim world have found their way to America’s shores. Many come seeking refuge from oppression. Millions come seeking better economic conditions for their families. The United States was a new beginning…a fresh start. This documentary details the struggles and the triumphs they all experienced as they integrated into a new world.
After the dinner and the program, we will proceed to the sanctuary for our Selichot Service at 8:15 pm. During this service, we will change our Torah covers to white in anticipation of the approaching High Holy Days.
“Selichot” means forgiveness, the theme for the High Holy Days. The Selichot Service begins the High Holy Days season and helps us prepare our hearts and minds for the holy days ahead.
