The Bay Area Cantorial Association's Twelfth Annual Concert, Thursday, February 5, 2015, 7 PM, Congregation Schaarai Zedek, Tampa, 3303 W. Swann Ave., Tampa 33609, 813) 876-2377, http://www.zedek.org. Suggested donation: $18 per person, no one turned away, any donation accepted with gratitude. BACA's annual concert features cantors and cantorial soloists currently serving the Tampa Bay, Sarasota, and central Florida Region in an eclectic concert of songs by Jewish composers and Jewish styles. Tickets available at the door for a suggested donation of $18 each; no one will be turned away. Proceeds benefit scholarships for cantorial students of both Reform and Conservative Sacred Music Study. The versatile concert — an annual undertaking now in its 12th year —includes folk and liturgical Hebrew, Yiddish, Chasidic, Sephardic, and Ashkenazi pieces celebrating Jewish life past and present. Solos, duets, and ensemble pieces will cover a range of Jewish writers, eras, styles, and cultures worldwide. BACA holds its concert annually on or near the weekend of Shabbat Shira (Sabbath of Song), when it has become customary around the world to hold special music-and song-related services and events. The concert is hosted in 2015 by Cantor Deborrah Cannizaro and Tampa's Congregation Schaarai Zedek. BACA membership includes active cantors and cantorial soloists from the Tampa Bay and Central Florida regions. The annual concert is BACA's chief fundraiser for cantorial scholarships to Reform and Conservative cantorial organizations and schools of sacred music study. Proceeds provide generous scholarships to the H. L. Miller Cantorial School of the Jewish Theological Seminary of Judaism (conservative). the School of Sacred Music of Hebrew Union College Jewish Institute of Religion (reform), and the American Conference of Cantors an the Cantors Assembly. To date, $36,000 has been raised by BACA for cantorial scholarships. Participants and program for the 2015 will soon be announced.
