This year’s Kristallnacht commemoration will remember the 81st Anniversary of Kristallnacht, "the Night of Broken Glass," with a commemoration service, including prayers and candle-lighting with Holocaust Survivors. Immediately following the commemoration service, Julie Kohner, a Second Generation Holocaust Survivor, will speak. Julie's program Voices of the Generations teaches the devastation of the Holocaust through its impact on one family.

In 1953, Julie’s mother, Hanna Bloch Kohner, a Holocaust Survivor, appeared on This is Your Life a popular television show of the time. Her story was one of the first stories of Holocaust survival ever heard by Americans. The episode may be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3F9Rc6i_-w

After Julie's mother passed away in 1990, she began to create educational programs to honor the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. Her goal was to teach the Holocaust as seen through her mother's eyes. This was the beginning of Voices of the Generations, a unique and personal approach to Holocaust education.

Julie has also traveled extensively throughout Europe to many of the places her parents described in their book, Hanna and Walter, A Love Story, and has conducted interviews with survivors whose experiences paralleled her mother's story of survival. As a result, Julie has become the voice of her parents, and of the survivors who shared her parents' story, for future generations.

Additionally, this year's commemoration at The FHM on November 10th will include free Museum admission from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This program is free and open to the public. RSVP is required. To confirm your attendance, please call 727.820.0100 x301.
