"Israel: The Use and Abuse of Power"
The Perennial Jewish Dilemma
Wednesdays, April 24, May 1 & 8
7:00 p.m. - 8:15 p.m.
Teacher: Rabbi Birnholz
For survival’s sake, Israel cannot afford to be powerless. On the other hand, having power often leads to the abuse of that power. Both ancient Israel and the modern State of Israel have faced this paradox and both have struggled to solve the dilemma it presents. Join us as we explore how power and the lack thereof have shaped the Israel we know today and how our views can help mold the Israel we would like to see tomorrow.
April 24: The State of Israel and Military Power. Defense vs. Occupation
May 1: The State of Israel and Religious-Political Power. Religious Choice vs. A Kosher Country
May 8: The State of Israel and Diplomatic Power. Diplomatic Acceptance vs. Survival
