“Who Nu?” – Sunday, March 5 at 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Enjoy learning about the fascinating lives of fellow congregants as they talk about their experiences, and the events that have made them who they are today. This month our speaker will be Sandy Wainberg.

  • Sandy was born in Philadelphia, Pa., then moved to Miami and lived there for 50 years.  She met her husband, Sal, a holocaust survivor, at UM.  Sandy earned a Master’s Degree from Teachers College, Columbia, with an emphasis on teaching English as a second language.  She taught in the first bilingual elementary school in Miami.  Sandy was married and raised two children, (Andy and Robyn), in Miami.  She played on an amateur tennis league for 20 years.  She has lots of stories about growing up in South Florida.  Robyn married Noah Jacobson and settled in Tampa to work with Jerry Sokol as a pediatrician.  Sal and Sandy moved to Tampa before the birth of their first grandchild in 1999. Sandy now has three lovely granddaughters: Marlin, Laney and Sadie. After moving to Tampa, Sandy immediately found a new "home" and extended family at Kol Ami.  She continued playing competitive tennis until 2003.  When Sandy started volunteering at the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg, Sal began to speak about his Holocaust story, and eventually shared his experience with school children all over Florida.  Sandy continues that important work today.
