By the end of World War II, it had become common knowledge that the Nazi’s often burned the books that they had looted from Jewish libraries throughout Europe. Allied forces were surprised, however, when they discovered that the Nazis had also saved millions of volumes of Judaica – much of it of great value.  Why did the Nazis preserve these books? Who was to determine what to do with this priceless collection after the war? Where are the books now? This talk will examine these and other elements of this fascinating and largely unknown chapter in the history of the Jewish people. It is a saga that in many ways, runs parallel to the history of the Jewish people in the late-20th century.
